I thought i should share information on what the costs were for this trip for those that might be interested in taking a similar trip through the interior.

Flight: I am fortunate that my costs for the flight were minimal as i am on Kates passes. I did however look on the Transat website and found that return flights were regularly available for roughly $800.

Bike Rental: Soulful Bikes here in Faro are a great place to rent if you want to go on two wheels. My 9 day rental of the NC750X was $960. Renting a car (small car) for the same period would be closer to $350.

Hotels: I did stay in a number of guest houses along the way mixed in with traditional hotel stays. I made sure that each accommodation was at least rated at 3 stars, and some were 4 stars, but nothing super luxury. My total cost for 11 nights on my trip was $1120. On a side note, the guest houses were for the most part better accommodations than the hotel stays.

Other: I took 500 Euros from the MultiBanco at the airport on my arrival in Faro at a cost of roughly $860CDN and still have 30 euros left for coffee and breakfast tomorrow at the airport. I payed roughly 15-20 Euros per day for fuel out of this 500 initial Euro purchase and have not been skimping or trying to stretch funds at any point on the trip.

In total, my costs for the trip were less than $2500CDN for 11 days wandering around the interior of the country. To me this is a very stark comparison with the amount of money people pay to sit on a beach at a second rate all inclusive resort. I realize that this is very opinionated, but hell, it is my blog after all.
